John Galliano, forever eccentric: Fall 2010

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

So what did you expect to see from

John Galliano – Demure? Shy? Shrinking violet fashion statements? We think not. Keeping true to form his Fall 2010 collection is a spectacle as much as it is anything else. It is nomad meets demonic temptress, I dream of Jeannie meets the dark side.

Planet Earth is burning

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

With Paris Fashion Week over it can no longer we said / sung that “Paris is burning.” Planet Earth however… Global warming seems more prominent of late, at least in fashion editorials.

While Eniko employed both cutting edge fashion and equipment to help fight global warming (follow the previous link if that makes little sense) model Denisa Dvorakova has simply taken to the desert. Her motorcycle may be old school, but her fashion is equally as on trend as Eniko’s; thoguh I can’t help but feel that D&G tap pants mightn’t be the most sensible of choices for such an environment.

What does Givenchy pay their models?

Ever wondered what models get paid to do a fashion week? Along with a rather disheartening story about the Givenchy Autumn / Fall 2010 casting, Page Six names a figure:

Lara Stone: the studs, the cigarette, the hair

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

It’s the contrast of the golden studs against the black t-shirt dress and cardigan that seems most powerful; against the stone background they can’t help but stand out. But it’s the finishing details that always go a long way to creating the effortlessly cool ‘off duty model‘ look.

Lara Stone hair style

For Lara it’s the barely there cigarette, catwalk make-up dominating bleached eyebrows and that hair: the most popular of 2010’s hairstyles, the side braid.

Elle magazine: report for duty

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

The military trend continues to explode into fashion pictorials in an understated, utilitarian way. Elle magazine gives us some particularly soft and feminine takes, like this beige trench, vampish red lipstick and 1940’s waved hair, which works particularly well.

Flash Walk: The Spirit of the Black Dress

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

You’ve heard of a flash mob… (a whole bunch of people in a public place assemble and do something that would appear random but is actually choreographed – like a huge organised dance routine, supermarket musical, or pillow fight – youtube it if you don’t believe me). But what about a flash walk?

The conceptual collision of flashmobs and catwalks, this surprise parade made its way down Melbourne’s Flinders Street on Tuesday morning, previewing pieces that we’ll soon see at The Spirit of the Black Dress exhibition.

For fun or fetish: balloons in Norway’s Elle

Posted by Fgupari | Fashion Style | Friday 12 March 2010 12:17 am

We think that sometimes this ongoing nudity in fashion trend has us turn a jaded eye towards every pictorial we see. It’s also not helped by the ongoing fetish fashion trend. The shoot Sart Sorbet features model Polina Barbasova playing amongst a festival of balloons (yes it’s the correct collective noun). Perfectly innocent.

Well… recently a friend recounted to me a message she received in which a man had requested photos of her with balloons. Needless to say she ignored the message, but apparently there’s a fetishist subculture even for that. Globophilia it’s known as.
